Schapelle Corby

Schapelle's case was harrowing. My first thought was, "What if that happens to me or someone in my family?" You know, the only thing you can do next time you travel is lock all your suitcase pockets.

I saw the documentary by accident on HBO. There's not much to watch on weekends, but luckily I got hooked on the footage filmed in Indonesia and people talking about a young woman, in this case, Schapelle Corby.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about (although it's explained below), Schapelle Corby is a young woman who went on vacation to Indonesia to visit her sister. Upon arriving at the airport, officials found a bag of marijuana in one of her backpacks. Corby claims she knew nothing about it and that someone planted the marijuana in her backpack, but since there was no conclusive evidence, the authorities imprisoned her for 20 years.

The documentary shows the battles of the lawyers, the family, and Schapelle herself. It's simply a glimpse into what many people have gone through and are currently going through in prisons around the world, unjustly incarcerated. Schapelle Corby: the hidden truth

Schapelle Leigh Corby is serving a 20-year sentence for the importation of 4.2 kg (9.3 lb) of cannabis into Bali, Indonesia. She was convicted and sentenced in Bali on 27 May 2005 by the Denpasar (Indonesia) District Court. On appeal, her conviction and sentence were confirmed with finality by the Indonesian Supreme Court. No further legal manoeuvres on her part are possible; she may petition for clemency from Indonesia's president, but would have to admit guilt to do so.

Corby has maintained from the time of her arrest that the drugs were planted in her boogie board bag and that she did not know about them.Her trial and conviction were a major focus of attention for the Australian media. Her current release date, with remissions, is 12 April 2024.

In June 2008 in Australia, the Nine Network broadcast a two-part documentary called Schapelle Corby: The Hidden Truth. An edited version of the documentary was renamed Ganja Queen and aired on HBO in North and South America, before being released on DVD.

Inside a book, inside a story

Un libro, no solo nos sirve cuando tenemos que buscar información, un dato exacto sobre algo, el leer nos da una idea, una descripción disimulada del autor del libro de lo que ocurre en su cabeza, en su vida o alrededor.

Leer un libro para perderse en lugar desconocido con personas que nunca veremos pero que caminando página por página iremos conociendo.

La fine ? o continuamos ?

Yo prefiero quedarme con lo que es bueno, lo que me hace feliz, segura. Puede ser que no sea palpable, pero sé que es así.

Creo que a todos nos ha pasado alguna vez estar en una situación donde preferimos ser los mediocres; no los culpo: el miedo hace eso. Solo si quieres quedarte en el mismo lugar,y no ser notado por nadie tendras tu buena dosis de mediocridad. Para salir de una situación así, tal vez no seamos los mejores, pero siempre hay que dar lo mejor.

Y quizá de eso se trata crecer: de entender que empezar de nuevo no significa haber fracasado, sino tener el valor de elegir un camino distinto. Cada nuevo comienzo nos obliga a dejar atrás una versión de nosotros mismos que ya no nos representa. Da miedo, sí, pero también es la única forma de descubrir hasta dónde podemos llegar.

HELP! the movie

• Director: Richard Lester (who also directed their first hit film, A Hard Day's Night).
• Writers: The screenplay was written by Marc Behm and Charles Wood.
• Release Date: The movie had its royal world premiere in London on July 29, 1965, before opening in US theaters on August 11, 1965.

The motivation behind Help! was a mix of business strategy, creative exhaustion, and tax breaks:

• The Soundtrack Machine: United Artists primarily backed Beatles films because they wanted the lucrative rights to sell the soundtrack albums. The films were essentially massive, highly effective promotional tools for the records.
• Avoiding a Repeat: The band was determined not to make a simple, black-and-white sequel to A Hard Day's Night (which had been a fictionalized, documentary-style look at Beatlemania). They wanted a complete change of pace. Instead, they opted for a colorful, surreal "Pop Art fantasy" that spoofed the massive James Bond spy-thriller craze of the mid-1960s.
• Exotic Locations (and Tax Loopholes): The plot—which involves an Eastern death cult chasing Ringo to recover a sacrificial ring—was famously written around specific locations like the Swiss Alps and the Bahamas. Paul McCartney later admitted they chose these spots simply because they wanted an excuse to go there. Furthermore, band manager Brian Epstein used the Bahamas shoot for complex tax purposes, helping the group claim residential status to avoid steep British tax rates.

The principal photography for Help! took just over two months to complete.

Filming officially began on February 23, 1965, in the Bahamas, where they spent about two weeks. By mid-March, they flew to Obertauern, Austria, for the alpine ski sequences. The remainder of the production was spent back in England shooting interiors at Twickenham Film Studios and various outdoor UK locations, wrapping up by mid-to-late April 1965.

The shoot became notoriously chaotic for director Richard Lester because the band was completely checked out from the script. Between being exhausted by global fame and heavily indulging in marijuana ("smoking marijuana for breakfast," as John Lennon later put it), the band spent a vast majority of the afternoon shoots completely incapacitated by the giggles.

The Box Office and Soundtrack Boom

Financially, Help! was an absolute home run. Produced on a budget of around $1.5 million, it pulled in millions of dollars globally within weeks. United Artists got exactly what they wanted: the soundtrack album spent nine weeks at number one on both the UK and US charts, selling millions of copies and yielding massive hit singles like "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride."

The Critical Reaction (Then vs. Now)

The critical reception was a bit more complicated than the financial one:

• In 1965: Critics generally enjoyed it, praising its vibrant Technicolor style, surreal humor, and the band’s natural charm. However, many felt the frantic, cartoonish plot lacked the fresh, authentic energy of A Hard Day's Night.
• The Modern View: Over time, Help! has been completely re-evaluated by film historians. Today, it is recognized as a massive influence on pop culture. Its quick cuts, absurd humor, and stylized musical sequences essentially laid the blueprint for modern music videos, directly inspiring the format of the 1960s TV show The Monkees and, eventually, the creation of MTV.

The Beatles' Own Verdict

The band themselves had mixed feelings about it. John Lennon later expressed frustration that they felt like extras in their own movie, pushed around by a massive plot rather than being allowed to show their personalities.

The Most Beautifully Weird TV Show: Pushing Daisies

Pushing Daisies is a whimsical mystery-fantasy series about a pie maker named Ned who has a very unusual gift: with a single touch, he can bring dead things back to life. But there are rules : if he touches them again, they die permanently, and if they stay alive for more than a minute, something else nearby dies in their place.

The show begins when Ned reunites with his childhood crush, Chuck, under not-ideal circumstances, but it is a romantic situation. From there, the series becomes a mix of romance, murder mysteries, dark fairy tale humor, and visually colorful storytelling.

Pushing Daisies : The creator and some facts

This series at the begining received very good reviews and great fan support, but at the time, they couldn't change ABC's mind, and the network canceled the show. Fans tried to get Pushing Daisies picked up by another network, but that didn't happen either. There was also support for the idea of ​​immortalizing the series in a two-hour movie, as was done with its creator, Bryan Fuller's previous series, Dead Like Me, but this also failed to materialize.

To the dismay of the show's fans, it only lasted two seasons. From an unused story idea to a complete show

The central premise was taken from an unused idea from Fuller's previous show, Dead Like Me (another great series about grim reapers, but we will talk about it another time), where the protagonist touched people to kill them, but someone else was bringing them to life. Ultimately, this opposite concept expanded to a whole new show and universe.

The Whimsy and Heart of Amélie

Visually and emotionally, Pushing Daisies owes a massive debt to the 2001 French romantic comedy Amélie. Fuller has frequently cited it as one of his favorite films. The show has a hyper-saturated color palette, surreal production design, and emotional tone. As Fuller once explained: 

"Really sad things happen in it, but you never get bogged down in the sadness.

Like Daisies, it's really about human kindnesses."

Solo Disney lo podia lograr

Seguramente se acordarán de la historia de La bella durmiente:

• El rey y la reina, que no han podido tener hijos, desean uno
  


• Les nace una linda niña y lo celebran en una fiesta
  


• Las hadas del reino le entregan dones a la criatura

Solo Disney podia crear una historia donde un príncipe sea capaz de arriesgar su vida y hacer lo que sea por la vida de esta princesa. El año pasado Disney eligió a David Beckham como el hombre de carne y hueso que interpretaría a este  príncipe.....muy buena elección .

Esta serie fotográfica fue pedida para promocionar los parques y mantener el interés en la cultura pop al invitar a celebridades a que convirtieran estos personajes animados en carne y hueso.

Animal rights activists PETA caught Lohan wearing a fur coat in Paris, and as expected, PETA members attacked!

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has attacked Lindsay Lohan in the past due to her fashion taste in using animal fur. Back in 2008, Lohan was heading to a club in Paris. This is where an anti-fur campaigner and PETA supporter showered Lohan with flour . 

To me, it seems more barbaric to encourage the killing of an animal by buying that kind of garment and pretending to be a high fashionista just for having an animal's fur on your back.

Jugando a ser una Diosa

A comienzos de este el año encontré el demo de un juego para computadora llamado virtual villagers de este juego existen 3 partes, de las cuales he tenido el placer de jugar la primera y actualmente la tercera parte.

Básicamente este juego trata sobre algunos sobrevivientes a un naufragio, estos pequeños personajes se encontraran en una isla y el jugador tendrá la labor de guiar a la tribu en todo sentido. La verdad se ha vuelto una adicción jugar este juego, que mas que nada trata de estrategia. En mi caso tuve que darle a cada integrante de la tribu un trabajo, también controlo lo que hacen, con quien….procrean, y cuantas veces jejeje.

Es interesante ver cómo puedes controlar a cada individuo y este va aprendiendo o descubriendo cosas diferentes. La vista que tengo de la isla donde este juego se desarrolla me da un aire de Diosa…y no se siente nada mal “trabajen esclavos!”- si solo podríamos controlar así nuestras vidas- *suspiro. Les recomiendo bajarse el juego completo o jugarlo en línea.
