Schapelle Corby

Schapelle's case was harrowing. My first thought was, "What if that happens to me or someone in my family?" You know, the only thing you can do next time you travel is lock all your suitcase pockets.

I saw the documentary by accident on HBO. There's not much to watch on weekends, but luckily I got hooked on the footage filmed in Indonesia and people talking about a young woman, in this case, Schapelle Corby.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about (although it's explained below), Schapelle Corby is a young woman who went on vacation to Indonesia to visit her sister. Upon arriving at the airport, officials found a bag of marijuana in one of her backpacks. Corby claims she knew nothing about it and that someone planted the marijuana in her backpack, but since there was no conclusive evidence, the authorities imprisoned her for 20 years.

The documentary shows the battles of the lawyers, the family, and Schapelle herself. It's simply a glimpse into what many people have gone through and are currently going through in prisons around the world, unjustly incarcerated. Search her name online and see some of the websites that support her.

El caso de Schapelle fue estremecedor, lo primero que pensé fue “y si me pasa a mi o a alguien de mi familia?” , sabes que lo único que puedes hacer la próxima vez que viajes es cerrar con candado todos los bolsillos de la maleta.

Vi el documental por accidente en la cadena HBO, los fines de semana no hay mucho que ver pero con suerte quede atrapada con las imágenes filmadas en Indonesia y personas hablando sobre una muchacha, en este caso: Schapelle Corby.

Para los que no saben de lo que hablo (aunque abajo se explica), Schapelle Corby es una joven que fue de vacaciones a Indonesia a visitar a su hermana, al llegar al aeropuerto los oficiales encontraron una bolsa de mariguana en una de sus mochilas. Corby alega que ella no sabía nada y que alguien metió mariguana en la mochila, pero como no había pruebas contundentes, las autoridades la encarcelaron por 20 años.

El documental nos muestra las batallas de los abogados, familia y la de Schapelle, simplemente es un vistazo a lo que muchas personas han pasado y en estos momentos pasan en las cárceles de diferentes partes del mundo, encarcelados injustamente.
