I'm happy to say that 4 of my 5 favorites covers of Nirvana's song -Smells Like Teen Spirit-, are sung by females who owned the song !

There are fantastic female groups and vocalists out there but this industry and the rock genre still has stupid men who think that only men can give a hard core performance of a song. With this songs, my evidence, I show you that you don't need to play songs the same way as pseudo "macho rockers" do. 

A Powerful song is the one that touch a heart and soul.

-ABOUT THE SONG

Issued to radio on August 27,1991, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was released two weeks later on September 10 as the lead single from Nevermind, the band's major label debut on DGC Records. The song did not initially chart, and it sold well only in regions of the United States with an established fanbase for the group. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was not expected to be a hit, for it was merely intended to be the base-building alternative rock cut from the album. 

It was anticipated that the follow-up single "Come as You Are" would be the song that could cross over to mainstream formats. However, campus radio and modern rock radio stations picked up on the track, and placed it on heavy rotation. The video received its world premiere on MTV's late-night alternative rock program 120 Minutes, and proved so popular that the channel began to air it during its regular daytime rotation. By the end of the year, the song, its accompanying video, and the Nevermind album had become hits. Both the song and Nevermind became a rare cross-format phenomenon, reaching all the major rock radio formats including modern rock, hard rock, album rock, and college radio.

"Teen Spirit" hit number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, and has since been certified platinum (one million copies shipped) by the Recording Industry Association of America.However, many American Top 40 stations were reluctant to play the song in regular rotation due to its sound, and restricted it to night-time play.

In the years following Cobain's 1994 death and the band's breakup, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" has continued to garner critical acclaim, and is now often listed as one of the greatest songs of all time. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of "The Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll" in 1997. In 2000, VH1 rated the song at number forty-one on its "100 Greatest Rock Songs" list, while MTV and Rolling Stone ranked it third on their joint list of the "100 Greatest Pop Songs".

 The Recording Industry Association of America placed "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at number eighty on their 2001 "Songs of the Century" list. In 2002, NME awarded the song the number two spot on its list of "100 Greatest Singles of All Time", with Kerrang! ranking it at number one on its own list of the "100 Greatest Singles of All Time". VH1 placed "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at number one on its list of "100 Greatest Songs of the Past 25 Years".

Evo vs. el pollo (mas vale tarde que nunca)

El pasado 22 de Abril se realizó en la ciudad de Cochabamba la primera Conferencia Mundial de los Pueblos sobre el Cambio Climático y los Derechos de la Madre Tierra, la cual fue liderada, como era de esperarse, por Evo Morales y su gobierno.

Esta cumbre tenía el objetivo de ser un encuentro medioambiental, el cual reuniría cientos de personas para analizar 17 puntos sobre el cambio climático en el mundo. Yo no asistí a este evento, ya que, a pesar de ser un tema interesante y digno de ser analizado, no se dieron respuestas o conclusiones satisfactorias/realistas sobre este gran problema. Esta conferencia se politizo y como siempre escuchamos a Evo, hablando contra Estados Unidos y los países “imperialistas/capitalistas”, recursos naturales (q Bolivia no explota lo suficiente), la madre tierra (una tema netamente indígena y que no representa a la totalidad de bolivianos). Pero en su afán de protagonismo era de esperarse que Evo diga alguna idiotez, algo que estaba fuera de lugar y que ni siquiera tenía que ver con la llamada “madre tierra”. Que fue lo que dijo Evo? pues se puso a criticar a la Coca-Cola y al pollo que para colmo, según investigaciones profundas por parte de brujos en el altiplano, causa la homosexualidad en el mundo! .

Una vez más, Evo me recordó las razones por las que no participo en actividades que organiza el gobierno; poca formalidad, poca investigación y mucho discurso político

Esta película de clase B dirigida por Jay Lee, es una semi-parodia del género de películas sobre zombies, si bien no es una película cómica y trata de ser una película seria, no llega a serlo. Esta película se queda en medio camino, su guion no es muy interesante, pero tampoco se puede esperar mucho de una película con este título, peor aun con el nombre de Jenna Jameson en el reparto ya que sabemos que no nos fijaremos en sus dotes actorales. Aun así, se las recomiendo, ya que la pueden ver para pasar un buen rato si es que no quieren tomarse el asunto de los zombies seriamente y ver strippers en acción!.

The Most Beautifully Weird TV Show: Pushing Daisies

Pushing Daisies is a whimsical mystery-fantasy series about a pie maker named Ned who has a very unusual gift: with a single touch, he can bring dead things back to life. But there are rules : if he touches them again, they die permanently, and if they stay alive for more than a minute, something else nearby dies in their place.

The show begins when Ned reunites with his childhood crush, Chuck, under not-ideal circumstances, but it is a romantic situation. From there, the series becomes a mix of romance, murder mysteries, dark fairy tale humor, and visually colorful storytelling.

Most episodes revolve around solving strange murders alongside a private investigator, while the bigger emotional story focuses on love, loneliness, secrets, and the consequences of trying to cheat death.

Pushing Daisies : The creator and some facts

This series at the begining received very good reviews and great fan support, but at the time, they couldn't change ABC's mind, and the network canceled the show. Fans tried to get Pushing Daisies picked up by another network, but that didn't happen either. There was also support for the idea of ​​immortalizing the series in a two-hour movie, as was done with its creator, Bryan Fuller's previous series, Dead Like Me, but this also failed to materialize.

From an unused story idea to a complete show

The central premise was taken from an unused idea from Fuller's previous show, Dead Like Me (another great series about grim reapers, but we will talk about it another time), where the protagonist touched people to kill them, but someone else was bringing them to life. Ultimately, this opposite concept expanded to a whole new show and universe.

The Whimsy and Heart of Amélie

Visually and emotionally, Pushing Daisies owes a massive debt to the 2001 French romantic comedy Amélie. Fuller has frequently cited it as one of his favorite films. The show has a hyper-saturated color palette, surreal production design, and emotional tone. As Fuller once explained: 

"Really sad things happen in it, but you never get bogged down in the sadness.

Like Daisies, it's really about human kindnesses."
